Getting UT Students SMART on FHIR
As part of Green Room Technologies’ commitment to the local Austin education and high-tech startup community, Green Room Technologies CTO, Darrell Woelk, was a guest lecturer last week in the AI in Health class in the University of Texas School of Information. This is the third year that Darrell has volunteered his time to share his knowledge of and experience with healthcare data interoperability and the HL7 FHIR standard with UT students.
In addition to his guest lectures, Darrell has also mentored UT students providing guidance on their class projects, one of which included the design and implementation of a SMART on FHIR app that used machine learning to predict the length of a patient hospital stay based on patient data read from an EHR.
The rollout of support for FHIR by major healthcare software vendors has created opportunities for companies to market new innovative products for improving patient care. Startups and established companies in Austin are looking for talented students with the skills necessary to rapidly implement and market these products.
Green Room Technologies is proud to play a role in establishing Austin as a major player in the development of healthcare software products.
